What type of rug is best for you?

With all the types, designs, and materials of rugs available in the market today, it has become harder and harder to choose one which will go perfectly with your home. In choosing the right rug for you, you need to consider several factors like the design, size and shape, and material of the rug.

Various traditional and modern designs are available in the market today. More popular designs include Persian, Oriental, Native American, and European, among others. These classy rug designs have become more and more popular over the years, especially among new age home owners who want to give their home space more character and depth. Aside from the design, the color and size of the rug also plays a huge role in your decision; the predominant color of the rug you should purchase should match or complement the overall color theme of your home or of specific rooms, and the size of the rug should be just right for the room you want to place it in.

Knowing the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of the material of the rug should also be at the top of your list of considerations. Rugs nowadays may either be made of natural materials like wool and silk, or synthetic materials like nylon, polypropylene, and polyester. Area rugs made of wool or silk are naturally more expensive as these raw materials are less abundant and more costly to maintain. But wool, in particular, is relatively easier to process and the color does not fade too quickly. Cheap rugs, on the other hand, are usually made of the synthetic raw materials mentioned above. That is not to say that rugs made out of these materials are not high quality; in fact, rugs made of nylon, polypropylene, or polyester have distinct advantages over the “natural” type. Aside from being more economical, rugs made of synthetic materials are, as a rule, easier to maintain and to process.
